Des Lally from Brecon – the epic mountain walker who raised over £50,000 for two charities in 2019 by climbing Pen Y Fan 365 times in 365 days – has set himself another awesome challenge. The mortgage broker and father of one is set to take on an Arctic Ultra 380 mile Non-Stop Self-Sufficient Foot Race into the Article Circle. The nine-day event is regarded by many as the Toughest, Coldest and Windiest Ultra distance foot race on the Planet, where Temperatures can drop to -40 degrees.
He’s facing the feat to raise money for Cancer Research UK and Help for Heroes.
Des says, “It’s about helping hose organisations that unconditionally help and to try and ensure they are able to continue to do so. Together we will all make a difference.”
Des’s Arctic Ultra challenge begins on 27th February 2020.
Help for Heroes Community Recovery Manager Shelley Elgin said, “We are incredibly grateful to all the wonderful supporters who take time to donate, fundraise or volunteer to ensure we can provide on-going support to those whose lives have been affected by their military service. Once again, Des is going above and beyond to raise funds and awareness of the services Help for Heroes deliver. We simply couldn’t deliver our holistic support without the generosity of people like Des. We’ll be cheering him on every step of the way in this inspirational endeavour for two very worthy causes.”
Including a donation of over £200 raised at a bake sale run by children of Cradoc CP Primary School in Brecon, and with over £1000 from a race night hosted by supporters in the town, Des has already raised over £3,000 as part of this challenge, but is keen to emulate the success of his previous endeavour.
