CHILDREN at a primary school in Prestatyn are going wild about nature and enjoying learning in a new environment thanks to Castle Green Homes.

 

Ysgol Clawdd Offa received £1,500 from the homebuilder’s Mission Green Prestatyn initiative towards improving its forest school area. The voluntary funding scheme is  linked to new homes being built at Sŵn y Môr on Gronant Road.

 

Head teacher Martin Edwards explained: “We wanted to enhance our forest school area to create a more accessible, weather-resilient, and enriching outdoor learning environment for children. With the help of Mission Green funding from Castle Green, we’ve been able to carry out improvements that will support year-round engagement with nature, regardless of weather conditions, and provide safe, inclusive spaces for exploration, creativity, and group activities. It reflects our strong commitment to sustainability, wellbeing, and hands-on environmental education, helping children build lifelong connections with the natural world.”

 

The Castle Green funding helped transform a previously boggy unsafe patch into a safe space for outdoor learning, with a shelter to allow activities to continue in all seasons. A mini wildlife habitat area has been created, including a bug hotel, bird feeders, log piles and native planting. Waterproofs were purchased to enable children to join in with the activities whatever the weather.

 

Castle Green Homes sales director Sian Pitt said: “It’s important to foster a love and understanding of the natural environment among children and the forest school programme does just that. We’re pleased to have been able to help Ysgol Clawdd Offa improve their forest school area so that children can enjoy learning outside.”

 

Ysgol Clawdd Offa was one of 11 good causes in the Prestatyn area to receive Mission Green funding linked to the Sŵn y Môr development.

 

The other local projects to receive funding though the initiative were Big Pool Wood volunteers, Cosy Craft Club, Denbighshire Play Rangers, Fins Swim School, Friends of Coronation Gardens, Hedgehog Help Prestatyn, Helping Homeless North Wales, Little Explorers and Friends, Prestatyn in Bloom, and Ysgol Gronant.

 

The Mission Green funding is in addition to the community investment Castle Green will make under a Section 106 agreement signed during the planning process.
