Businesses in Wales which are looking to give something back to the community are being encouraged to contact Armed Forces charity Help for Heroes, who have a dedicated team providing holistic support to men and women across the country, whose careers have been cut short due to illness or injury.
Based at the charity’s Community Recovery Office in Treforest, Recovery Manager Shelley Elgin says, “Our skilled staff work throughout Wales and Hereford, delivering life-changing services including welfare and career advice, 1-2-1 support, fellowship, sports recovery and clinical liaison. Every activity we offer is designed to improve the wellbeing of men and women who put their lives on the line for us, and we want to give them a second chance at life, for them, and their families.”
Every week the charity facilitates community hubs, events and workshops which can develop camaraderie and inspire, enable and support this talented and valuable section of the community to live lives with purpose once more. This includes a weekly pilates and circuits session, and monthly fellowship hub which is hosted at no cost to the charity by Nuffield Health, Bridgend.
Ms Eglin adds, “Help for Heroes relies on the generosity of the public to support our work and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who takes time to volunteer to collect for us, hosts a sponsored event or activity to raise vital funds, or donates services as a gift in kind to Help for Heroes.”
This month, businesses and individuals who are keen to host fundraising events are encouraged to attend a Recovery Discovery event at Nuffield Health in Bridgend, where they can meet the Help for Heroes team to find out more about the charity’s work across the region and learn about opportunities to get involved in fundraising events and activities.
Area Fundraising Manager Rhys Edwards says, “We have a fantastic cohort of incredibly energetic and dedicated fundraisers across Wales who benefit hugely themselves when they take time out to give back to the men and women whose lives have been affected by their military service. We’re very excited about the opportunity to share stories of the work our team deliver, and how we are improving lives every day though our Community Recovery support.”
The Help for Heroes Recovery Discovery event will take place on Wednesday 18th March and attendance is by invitation only. To find out more about supporting Help for Heroes or to request a space at the event, contact Rhys Edwards rhys.edwards@helpforheroes.org.uk or call 07807 304311.
