British TIMBERSPORTS® Pro Champion Glen Penlington led a team of seven logger sports athletes on a highly successful competitive tour of New Zealand over the festive period in preparation for the 2024 British season.
Welshman Glen was joined by his sister Zoe and his father Bob, who had inspired the siblings to take up the sport in the first place.
The team also included Glen’s girlfriend Georgia Lewis and two-time British Rookie Champion Jack Morris, as well as Zac Powell and Andrew Gosling.
The team took part in events across New Zealand, competing in multiple different logger sports disciplines in Cromwell, Gore, Invercargill, Riverton, Colac Bay and Tuatapere.
Glen was positive about the results from everyone and believes that the tour will stand him and the rest of the team in good stead for the domestic campaign.
He said: “It’s been a fantastic trip and we learnt a lot which will help us for the forthcoming 2024 season.
“We take on board everything we have learnt out here and will put it back not only into our own training but also share it with everyone back in the UK to help improve all of our performances.”
Everyone from the team secured at least one win during the trip, with Bob Penlington competing again after a break from the sport, and Georgia Lewis taking part in her first competitions, after only two and a half months of training.
Glen’s sister Zoe also believes the trip will be of huge value. She commented: “It was an incredible experience as a team and a really great environment where we could learn, meet people and compete in a different way.
“I didn’t have the best season in the UK and this has helped me fall back in love with the sport again.
“Everyone has been incredibly supportive and it was great to come over here and learn each time we competed. We were given a lot of advice and we can’t wait to see it pay off in 2024”
