St Tydfil Shopping Centre is delighted to announce it’s chosen Afon Taf High School, community group SORT, and Twynyrodyn Community School as finalists in its St Tydfil Cares Community Fund.
Schools, charities and groups were invited to apply for a chance to win a £200 We Love Merthyr gift card to help complete a project that would benefit their community.
Local people are now being asked to vote for who they would like to win.
Sadly, during the school Christmas break a pupil at Afon Taf High School passed away after contracting meningitis. As part of Maisie’s Memorial Fund, the school is fundraising to create a memorial garden where students can go to remember, and the voucher would go towards helping to create this space.
SORT is a community group organised by Drink Wise Age Well which enables local people aged between 50 and 85 the chance to come together and enjoy quizzes, games and bingo. The sessions take place at High Street Baptist Church Hall and the £200 gift card would be used to purchase raffle items, new games and refreshments so the group can continue to help combat isolation and loneliness in the older population of Merthyr Tydfil.
To help ensure break times are fun and interesting for its pupils, Twynyrodyn Community School is currently renovating a green area. A clean-up day is being organised where parents will be transforming the space and the school would then like to use the £200 We Love Merthyr gift card to purchase interesting and engaging outdoor games.
Julie Calderbank, Operations Manager at St Tydfil Shopping Centre, commented:
“We’re delighted to have brought back our St Tydfil Cares Community Fund for a special one-off giveaway and would like to encourage the local community to get involved and vote for who they would like to receive the gift card. Good luck to our three finalists.”
Votes can be cast by visiting St Tydfil Shopping Centre’s Facebook page and choosing the relevant reaction on the post pinned to the top of the page, or by emailing StTydfil@pmwcom.co.uk and putting the name of the school or group being voted for in the subject line.
