CASTLE Green Homes has planted itself in the Abermorddu community, sharing £5,000 among good causes via its Mission Green initiative.

 

Projects with an emphasis on sustainability, the environment, health and wellbeing were invited to apply to the voluntary funding scheme offered by Castle Green Homes linked to its Maes y Castell development on Wrexham Road.

 

As a good neighbour, the homebuilder also hosted a special event for families from nearby Abermorddu CP School, serving up ice cream and offering face painting “on the house”.

 

Sales director Sian Pitt explained: “The concept of Mission Green is simple – we want to celebrate and support those people and organisations in and around Abermorddu who are working hard to look after the environment or residents’ wellbeing. We had a great response and received applications from a range of worthy causes. When allocating the funding we tried to focus on those nearest the development while supporting a mix of good causes to have maximum impact.

 

“With the grant funding we’re supporting a range of planting projects, helping provide food for nature, enabling schools to improve their outdoor space and encouraging young people to develop a love for the natural environment.”

 

Mission Green Abermorddu grants were made to:

 

  • 1st Hope Scout Group to help create a sustainable outdoor learning and wellbeing space
  • Abermorddu CP School towards gardening tools and other resources to improve the school’s allotment area
  • Caergwrle Social Club for materials for planters to be built by volunteers, plus plants, to screen the recycling bins at the High Street entrance
  • Castell Alun High School for native wildflower turf to create a ‘marvellous meadow’ and materials and living organisms for an indoor pond.
  • Hope Community Council towards improvements to noticeboards illustrating the history, landscape and present-day environment.
  • Hwb Caergwrle to help create a pollinator trail with planters, tools and hanging baskets to be provided to local residents

 

Mission Green Abermorddu is a voluntary scheme. It’s in addition to the community investment Castle Green agreed during the planning process. That funding includes almost £222,000 towards improvements at Castell Alun High School.

 

Castle Green is also building and selling new homes at Hawthorn Meadows in Buckley and Gladstone Grange in Hawarden. Linked to those developments, the company is offering a further £20,000 in Mission Green funding. Applications for the scheme are now open and can be made online via https://www.castlegreenhomes.uk/mission-green-community-fund-flintshire. The deadline for applications is August 4.

 

Separately to both Mission Green and its statutory obligations, Castle Green has sponsored STEM racing teams from Abermorddu CP School and agreed a one-year partnership countywide to support Home-Start Flintshire.

 

“Schools are at the heart of the community and because we’re building so close to Abermorddu CP School we invited families to a special after school event at Maes y Castell,” Sian explained.

 

“The children had great fun exploring the show homes and having their faces painted, followed by ice cream.”

 

Once complete, Maes y Castell will comprise 70 homes. There will be 49 private sale properties and 21 affordable homes.

 

An area of public open space will be provided, with hedgerow and tree planting carried out by the homebuilder.
