Welsh adults are the least motivated in the UK when it comes to maintaining health and fitness habits over winter, according to new national research from SuperNutrio high protein, high calcium milk. Just 26% of people in Wales report using the winter period to keep up or progress their healthy routines, marking the lowest motivation level across all UK regions.
The findings come amid a growing movement across the UK to ditch the traditional January gym scramble in favour of the Gen Z led Winter Arc trend. Nationally, 41% of young Brits are choosing to establish fitness and nutrition routines between October and December rather than waiting for a New Year reset, supported by over 800,000 TikTok posts. Furthermore, 35% of UK adults agree that waiting until January or spring to start a health push is already too late for lasting results.
Natalie Rouse, Nutritionist and Exercise Physiologist for SuperNutrio, comments on the psychological shift “We are witnessing a major behavioural shift away from the traditional January reset. Psychologically, waiting for an arbitrary date like the 1st January often creates an all or nothing mindset, which fuels pressure and leads to fast burnout. Starting in the winter months removes that extreme expectation, allowing people to build intrinsic motivation and self-efficacy through steady, low pressure momentum.
From a behavioural standpoint, success is not about drastic overhauls, it is about habit stacking. Supporting consistent physical routines starts with reliable nutrition dense diets. Making simple, friction free swaps in your daily routine, like choosing naturally protein rich dairy, helps anchor these healthy behaviours effortlessly so they stick to it long term.”
Despite seasonal challenges such as tiredness (41%) and cold weather (38%), 68% of Brits believe that small, manageable micro habits are key to beating the winter slump. Keeping up habits through Q4 also boosts mental resilience, helping 53% of adults enter January with heightened confidence. Simple additions like SuperNutrio milk, which delivers double the protein and 80% more calcium through a patent pending process using 100% British cow milk, provide a straightforward way to nourish the body without complex diet overhauls.
